Sketchup 8 sobre Wine - Primer paso, Instalar CrossOver

CrossOver® Linux

You are the noblest of the noble running Linux. You don't want the despair of running a Windows OS on your finely minted machine. You don't want to sell your soul for a Windows license or squander away your hard drive shekels running a virtual machine. Dual-boot? I think not! But the heart wants what the heart wants. Thousands of Windows games and programs to run on your favorite Linux distro (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Debian, RHEL and oh so many more). Oh the conundrum.

CrossOver Linux doesn't have ye 'ole overhead of a Windows operating system or virtual machine, which means ye 'ole Windows apps will run at native speed, play games at full fps all while maintaining the Linux OS integration. Simply magic!

Trouble installing or running SketchUp on Wine

Troubleshooting

If you have trouble installing or running SketchUp on Wine, you might try using these registry settings files to correct the problem. To use one, just download it into your home directory, launch a terminal and type

 wine regedit /s filename

where filename is the name of the registry file.

  • "SketchUp was unable to initalize OpenGL": If you see this error, download File:Force sketchup hw accel.reg
  • SketchUp crashes on start with no error message: Force off the "Welcome to SketchUp" dialog with File:Disable welcome.reg
  • SketchUp crashes on or shortly after startup; either the main window is displayed, or you have already disabled the Welcome screen: Force off the "Snappy Instructor" dialog with File:Disable instructor.reg

Instalar Sketchup 8 en Linux - Problemas

Re: OpenGL: ChoosePixelFormat failed

This post is a little old but I decided to add some input to it since it might help some else trying to run Sketchup7 on Karmic Koala 9.10.

It is always better to download the last version of wine from their site since the Ubuntu repository is a little outdated.

The version wine version that is working for me is 1.1.43.

The fix is real simple:

Fix:
Open your wine menu and open the C drive (/home/user/.Wine)
Open the Windows Folder
Find Regedit.exe and run it with Wine
Find: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\GLConf ig\Display
There are three entries - Look at the bottom one, name 'HW_OK"
Double click it and change the data from a 0 to a 1
Run Sketchup7

that should do it. I read some postings mentioning problems with black screens, which are related to compiz; in that case just disable compiz.

I hope this can help someone. I've been trying get Sketchup running for the longest time, I finally got it working with this little trick.

good luck
